I made this for my family's Mother's Day dinner. It was eaten up! The recipe is here:

It really wasn't that hard to bake. Just time consuming...
Mom loved her card and bracelet. I even made a gift bag to put her presents in:

Church was exhausting today. We had two anthems, plus it was Pentecost Sunday and youth Confirmation. The director made us do the Tallis "If Ye Love Me" again as a communion anthem- this time we did it right. I hope we don't mess up like the first time we sang it ever again!

Eddie says hello.

He was just posing. Kira was hiding that day, so no new pictures!
I just updated my recipe blog with a nice chicken and mushroom dish.

Had to use up some old bananas today. I made fritters:

I couldn't resist using one of Ianto's big lines for my entry title.

I haven't updated my cooking blog since before Christmas! I've added two lovely recipes...
http://kiraskitchen.blogspot.com/
Well, the first one is lovely. I don't like the second one because I hate cauliflower..but my mom adored it. She said it was one of the best things I've ever cooked! The mushroom spaghetti is fantastic, though. Next time, I'm going to add portobello mushrooms.

We finally got some rain last night. Mom's garden has really suffered because of water restrictions. But parts of the garden are still thriving!
I harvested what was probably the last of the peppers today. It's amazing that the plants are still producing so far into October. Mom thinks she'll have another month of vegetables coming in! She'll harvest the salsify next week. Yum.

I'm even going to start a fifth blog- all about music.

They're apple-date-pecan brownies. Actually, they're more like blondies. No chocolate. The recipe, along with the promised lemon poppy seed cake recipe, is here: http://kiraskitchen.blogspot.com/ Enjoy!

I may not always agree with our government, but I'm still proud to be an American.
I do love the Fourth of July. I'm not bothering with fireworks again this year (will watch on T.V.), but I am going to watch 1776 tonight! I was very happy to see that it's actually going to be on T.V. for a change (I think it's on Turner Classic Movies), but I have the DVD anyway.
Had a late lunch with the family- I made the best fajitas ever. I found a great marinade, and used skirt steaks, which were grilled until nearly well-done and then sliced. They were perfect. I also made my famous black eyed pea salsa, and some mango salsa as well. I've posted the black eyed pea recipe before, but here is my made-up mango recipe:
1 mango, peeled and cubed.
1 cup pineapple chunks, drained
1 tablespoon finely chopped cilantro
Juice of one lime
3 chili peppers, seeds removed, finely chopped
1 small onion, finely chopped.
Combine ingredients in a bowl, and refrigerate for at least two hours. Serve with tortilla chips. Or roast duck!
(ten points and a cookie for whoever guesses that reference!)

I made this for a Derby party. It's Benedictine spread, and it's a very refreshing treat.
