I think the Christmas season has officially begun for me!
I've been almost too busy to do any cross stitching. I did manage to finish a card:

I still have to do my mother's present. It's simple, though. Then I have one more card to do.
Messiah practice is still going well. Yesterday we got through six of the ten choruses we're doing, and Katie did the "voicing"- moving people around to get a better balance. She kept me in the front row- which means I'll be seen as well as heard. Yikes.
We had to fill out name tags last night as well. I almost had a little bit of fun- when I get a badge that says "Hello, my name is...", I'm always tempted to write: "Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." But I'm sure most people wouldn't get it. The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies...

Evil Choir Directorâ„¢ really needs to think about the things he says. He got a lot of amused looks and snarky laughter when discussing cell phones at the sessions. "Be sure to turn on your vibrators!"
That got a lot of snickers. Yes, we're twelve. Obviously, he meant to say, "Turn your cell phones to vibrate". I like most of the stuff we've done. My favorite is probably "Down to the River to Pray". We're doing mostly new music, except for a couple of organ pieces. The bells have two pieces that will be recorded on Sunday.
It rained all night! I think we got two inches. And it was still raining this morning. I hope this keeps up through the weekend.
I'm going to a Halloween party next Wednesday, so I actually had to get a costume! I just picked up a pair of fairy wings, and I'll wear them over a nice black dress.

I need to read something happy now. It was a great book, though- very deserving of the Pulitzer Prize. And Luciano Pavarotti died today. What a loss for the opera world.
Damn, it hasn't been a good year for opera- first Beverly Sills, and now Pavarotti.- Mood:

Last night was the second to last concert at the library. It was a terrific group called the Pan Masters- all steel drums. They've been together for 22 years, and the kids of some original members play with them.
They played all kinds of stuff- classic rock, reggae, traditional. They even invited people on stage to try the drums. I wish my nephew could have made it to this one- he is such a good drummer himself, and it's always good for him to hear a variety of percussion instruments and musical styles.
The concert had to be moved indoors- we had a terrible thunderstorm. It rained for a solid hour. The turnout was very good despite the weather. They're really a popular group on the East Coast. The final concert is the day after my birthday next week!
Yet another funny Harry Potter icon:
Wish this was smaller. I'd love to use it here.
Hoser redid the Neville icon so I can use it at TrekBBS-

I hate to alter icons like that...I don't even know who made it originally. But cursing in icons at Trek is a no-no.
I want more, more, more Harry icons and motivational posters!
I went to see Ratatouille today. It was very good, but way too sophisticated for little kids. I'll put up a longer review at my other blog later. I'm going to see Hairspray tomorrow!

If they play "Cherchez la Femme" by Dr. Buzzard's New Savannah Band, my head will explode. Okay, anyone on my f-list remember that one?
Oh, crap. Now it's The Village People with "YMCA".
Time to turn the radio OFF.- Mood:

In between setting up tables, showing people where to go, making sure Mr. McCutcheon had water, taking pictures, enjoying the concert, and taking everything down, I managed to do some cross stitching. These concerts are informal, and it's not unusual to see women whip out their knitting or other needlework!

Here is the only picture of mine that came out at all (the pics I took with the library's camera came out better, but I don't have them):

I have a cross stitch piece to show off, too. This is for Michelle, one of the reference librarians, who just got promoted to Head of Reference at a different branch. So this is her good-bye present!

The head of circulation at the library is also leaving, so I'm working on something for her, too.

Damn. I grew up in an opera-loving household, and she was one of the brightest stars, one my family loved to hear. She stopped singing when I was a really little girl, but I loved how dedicated she was to promoting the arts. There just isn't enough of that these days. RIP, "Bubbles".

Behind the cut as always, so those who aren't interested can skip.
But I know I'm not the only girl out there who likes him...House was pretty good last night. SVU kind of sucked. Looking forward to Lost tonight. It had better be good- I have a choir practice from hell tonight, and need something to look forward to! I can't believe that it's Palm Sunday this week...then Holy Week and Easter. There is so much music to learn. Fortunately, Evil Choir Directorâ„¢ is getting better at teaching it to us.
I just put the Dreamgirls and Wicked soundtracks on my MP3 player. Awesome. I loved Dreamgirls so much. My mom is going to try to get Wicked tickets (and possibly Spamalot, too!) this summer for my birthday (we're going to take a theater trip to New York!)... I can't wait.
