We did one of my favorite works today: If Ye Love Me by Thomas Tallis. We practiced and practiced and had sung it well in rehearsal...but when it came time to sing in church, something went wrong. The director insisted on doing it without organ, and he directed from a spot where many of us couldn't see him. We started off wrong (his fault, totally), and he tried to get us to stop! None of us stopped...we kept on going. I think it would have been far worse to stop and start over. We did finally get it together, but he was not pleased. What the hell did he expect from us? If we can't see him, and we don't have the notes, we're not going to be able to sing. He insulted us by trying to make us stop. I never want to sing this work again. :( I'm dreading practice on Wednesday. He's going to chew us out for things that were his doing! I have a feeling that people are going to quit. I know that once Pentecost has come and gone, I'm going to take a long break.
It really was awful. I had to leave before the last hymn because I thought I might cry.
The bell choir rang this morning, too. We didn't do as well as we did in practice. The youth bells were much better than we were!
Other stuff- I read You Suck by Christopher Moore, which was hilarious. I didn't know that it was a sequel! I'll have to read the first book, Bloodsucking Fiends, later. Also, I'm going to start reading M.C. Beaton's Hamish Macbeth series. My mom and I loved watching the T.V. series (though the episodes really didn't resemble the books much!), so now I want to read the books! The library has a bunch of them on audio cassette/CD/MP3.
Evil Choir Director™ really needs to think about the things he says. He got a lot of amused looks and snarky laughter when discussing cell phones at the sessions. "Be sure to turn on your vibrators!"
That got a lot of snickers. Yes, we're twelve. Obviously, he meant to say, "Turn your cell phones to vibrate". I like most of the stuff we've done. My favorite is probably "Down to the River to Pray". We're doing mostly new music, except for a couple of organ pieces. The bells have two pieces that will be recorded on Sunday.
It rained all night! I think we got two inches. And it was still raining this morning. I hope this keeps up through the weekend.
I'm going to a Halloween party next Wednesday, so I actually had to get a costume! I just picked up a pair of fairy wings, and I'll wear them over a nice black dress.

Today started out nice. I went to a brunch reception for library volunteers. I was invited at the last minute, sort of. I guess people still want me around at the library!
There was good food and a nice presentation. After that, I swung by the cross stitch shop to see if there was anything new. Nothing, thank goodness, but I just love going through the stacks of charts.
There was a pretty nasty thunderstorm this afternoon. It left me with a headache. So it might have been a good idea to skip choir. But noooo. I went anyway. I wish I hadn't. It was awful. The two most obnoxious members of the choir have returned. They are so disruptive, and one is such a bully that it sucks all the joy out of singing.
Thank God I'm not in her section. And Evil Choir Director™ gave us new music, and didn't play our parts right. We're going to have a hard time learning it all. The only bright spot of the night was his announcement that he's signed us up for some intense workshops...which may lead to a trip to England! As miserable as I've been, it will be worth it to stick around for that!. Heck, I'd be happy just going to a workshop in D.C.- anything to give our choir members some more confidence. There are some not-so-good singers in the choir, and they could use some better training.
Damn, I hate it when choir makes me feel bad. Lost had better be good tonight! And I think I'll go to Michaels tomorrow and buy some cardmaking/scrapbooking supplies. If I indulge in my hobbies a bit, I'll feel better.

I was very lucky while in the grocery store yesterday. I found two sodas that I love but rarely find...Cheerwine and IBC's Cherry Limeade. Absolutely delicious. And more so because they are rare.
I can only find them at the Food Lion near my sister's house, and they only occasionally stock them.
Evil Choir Director™ actually started us on Easter music last night. They're not terribly hard, and they're gorgeous (one is by Bach). We're singing "Wondrous Love" on Sunday (anthem based on the hymn What Wonderous Love is This). He still wastes too much time on warmups, but we're getting through our music.
And a quick fangirl moment- thank you to

Lexmark printers are teh suck.
I'm about to shoot mine. It doesn't print pictures very well. It also eats color ink cartridges, and they are damned expensive. But I'm stuck with the damn thing now. Grrr.
Cut, you know why...but there is some non-fangirl stuff, too!
