Wow. That was fun. Five movies in twelve hours! Now that I've seen all five nominees (Atonement twice!), I'm having a hard time deciding what should win Best Picture. I'll do more detailed reviews at my movie blog later.

First was Michael Clayton- a great, fabulously acted thriller in the style of All the President's Men. If it were any other year, I'd love to see George Clooney win Best Actor.

There Will Be Blood was bizarre. Daniel Day Lewis has a lock on Best Actor, for sure...it was an awesome movie, but parts of it had me going WTF????

I've already reviewed Atonement, so I'll skip to Juno. I enjoyed it, it was quirky, funny, and touching, but it did not deserve a Best Picture nomination.

No Country For Old Men was typical (meaning brilliant) Joel and Ethan Cohen fare. Bloody and confusing, full of characters with ambiguous morals. I really need to read the novel (by Cormac McCarthy) it was based on.

What do I think will win? My heart says Atonement or Michael Clayton, but my mind says No Country...but Blood could be a spoiler. No, no, no to Juno. Original Screenplay, sure, but not Picture.

Other noms...As much as I love Johnny Depp and Sweeney Todd, he should not have been nominated for Best Actor over Josh Brolin for No Country...or James McAvoy for Atonement.

Best Actress- I haven't seen any of the performances except for Ellen Page in Juno, and I hope she doesn't win. She's too young, it wasn't the greatest performance ever. She'll have other chances.

Supporting players- Javier Bardem will win for No Country...and rightfully so...that was one scary performance. I wish Paul Dano had been nominated for Blood. Cate Blanchett will probably win for I'm Not There, but I'd rather see Tilda Swinton win for Michael Clayton. That movie deserves at least one award.

Tomorrow I will cheer/bitch about the ceremony!
